Most of you know that I’m trying to start up a book club. Does anyone know of short stories, poems, or anthologies that appeal to kids grades 6-8?

I think you should consider Paint Me Like I Am, written by the teen WritersCorps. WritersCorps is a nonprofit organization for at-risk teens, and all of the poems in this collection speak to diversity and social challenges. Plus, I think your kids might enjoy things written by “other kids” their ages.
In terms of short stories, how about 145th Street: Short Stories, by Walter D. Myers? The setting is in Harlem, and all residents of the neighborhood are portrayed. So, kids will read about a wide range of characters of different ages….this is great for giving them perspective.
Good luck! -Sofia
